Diary 4

Diary 4

The Lebanon War and the Sabra and Shatila massacre shape the fourth chapter of Diary, a film in which Perlov traces a series of correspondences across different artistic disciplines in search of an image capable of representing horror. He turns to Goya’s series of etchings The Disasters of War produced between 1810 and 1815 which he calls the greatest television reporter of all time to denounce media representations of the Lebanon War. He also turns to music with Prokofiev’s Field of the Dead seeking a language that can move the spectator before the brutal reality of the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Ariel Sharon refuses to resign and political contingency intertwines with domestic intimacy on the occasion of his twin daughters’ birthday.
